K5 Review/Discussion Thread Options

I know there was some discussion going on in one of the other threads. Admins, feel free to cut and insert those into this first post.


I'm slowly going through this 5th stage since I've been pretty busy this weekend. I just started watching the first unit which is called Endroll (?) and the dancing is pretty awesome. Sure, I maybe biased toward Umechan but Nonti had that badass cartwheel that seemed so natural, she could have been doing some capoeira!

I'll continue my review later. Now it's nappy time.

I'm really happy, because I was worried that they'd have a crappy stage to make up for how awesome K4 was and instead... it's just as awesome, if not moreso. I could probably listen to it and K4 all day.

K5 Awards!

Favorite songs: End Roll, Mushi no Ballad, Saka Agari, Fugiri, Tenohira, Fan Letter, and To be continued, although I really can't think of a song I dislike/would skip more often than play.

Cutest/funniest/awesomest moments: Yuko "spinning" Kana, Nonti being goofy (camera whoring and almost running into someone else head-on, picking up stuff after the unit songs [a flower from an "Ai no Iro" dress, Sayaka's hat], the cartwheel), Sayaka getting super into "Mushi no Ballad" causing the "End Roll" unit ("Umeshima Natsuyo", IIRC) to comment that she had a "solo concert"

Best outfits: End Roll, Fan Letter, Encore (minus the white things for "To be continued"). The ones for Machikado no Party, etc, would have gotten a mention, but ever since someone on S48 mentioned that they look like packing material or whatever, that's all I can think of and I can't help but laugh when I see them now. D:

Endroll FTW! Nontii looked like a pimp in the best way possible! And Yuko's dancing managed to be both cute and cool at the same time! And Natsumi looked stunning and I want Ayaka's clothes.

That is all because I haven't watched any other units yet

I actually found the full team songs better than the unit songs this time around.

I guess End Roll would be the best unit song, but I think it's overrated so far. I'm just biased toward Yuko and Umechan so I have to somewhat like it

I gotta say tho, of the 3 groups Team K has the most physically attractive girls.

Anyway, pretty solid Stage. It wasn't gimmicky like the last one but at least the songs had a clear theme they followed through the whole song, unlike A5 which lacked direction in most songs.
You know a Stage is good when you are done watching and you ask yourself "Aaaw, thats it?"

The group songs were ok, but nothing that grabbed my attention. I still regard Team B better in that department (Actually I think H1 had the better group songs but that since you can attach it to a specific Team....).

Even if you include Wagamamana Nagareboshi, the unit songs were darker and mellower than their last stage, making it that more cohesive.

I fucking loved the choreography of Dakishimeraretara. They managed to be sensual without being explicitly sexy. And how can you not like that butt-shake?

I wished they had used less girls for Ai no Iro and just made two songs instead. It looks like they just said "Fuck it" and lumped all leftover members in there so it almost feels like a group song.
Poor Ohori went from a duet to the middle row of a 6-member song.

And then there is the most remarkable performance of all: Sayaka's Mushi no Ballad (making her the third member to ever get a solo song in a stage setlist).
The emotion she puts into her singing really flies off the screen right into your face. I just wish the song itself was better, its more a performance you have to watch instead of just listening.
It is going to be interesting when Sayaka can't perform and they have to get a replacement, her voice is pretty much unmatched in whole AKB48. I suggest a high-pitched girl just for shits and giigles.

And I still can't believe Noro managed to pull a cartwheel.

Third? I think it's second. Yuko is the only other girl to have a solo (K3). In a concert setlist, though, there's Hoshino Michiru, too.

Anyway, this stage is good but I still prefer K4, if not just for the Meshibe and 16nin song. I can't see myself putting this songs in my mp3player as I care more about the perfs as a whole.

I still haven't watched the whole thing yet but I think it'll grow on me once I get it in my mp3 player. A5 and K4 totally grew on me after listening to it on my iPod several times. YES, even A5. So for me, K5 has a good shot at growing on me too.

BUT I loved Erepyon's costume in wagamamana. Skirt was nice and short. AND I was thinking to myself, ":omgwtf: Kana isn't just shouting! But still not that great." I'm just watching this for Erepyon.

Also, I'd like to find out how the wotas will add their chants to these songs. They seem to be written in a way were not much chanting can go on. Well, at least for the ones I've listened to so far.

After watching it again today, I'm still not liking any of the group songs. I know its just me, and i'm talking about the songs here, not the performance, since its very evident that Team K's energy is there.

but yeah, thank God for unit songs and I can say that I like all of them, especially Dakishimeraretara, that just made me cry the first time I heard it. If anyone can give some partial lyrics for this that would be great.

like yeah! I mean I love the song but Kasai's coat thingy looked weird. Nacchi and Mocchi looked really hot though.

END ROLL blew me away, that classical guitar on the instrumental sounds really good. The dance was epic but the costumes still look plain to me. I mean after watching that again, I can see some effort on the details like the one sided fur thingy on the coats (Yuko's and Nontii's I think). But maybe I'm just not seeing enough colors from it, just plain white. I remember there was blog pic of this unit before and they had more badass outfits there.

I think they're just trying to even things out. Girls that did have a prominent unit prolly got put into a larger unit.

She had a solo single... can't really get bigger then that I think when you are in a group.

Aside from that, I think I saw her more in front and center then in previous stages?? (where she was almost always at the back and to the left)

Yeah, I know she had her single, but it felt more like some elaborate audition for her to keep her job to me. Besides, if she really can't get much bigger than that, then she should be popular enough to be in a AKB48 single.

End roll was awesome stuff! Matsubara I loved the hip-hop styled white outfits they were wearing.

Kasai's vocals sounded kinda weak to be lead in Dakishimeraretara but the costumes were hawt. And the tie and shirt combo in Fan letter (I think?) totally killed me.

This was a pretty solid stage. Hopefully it'll still be on when I get to Tokyo later this year.

I'm not planning on making this a regular thing for every stage, but I liked K5 enough that I've decided to translate all the songs. I wasn't sure if this should go in it's own thread, but anyway, here's part 1, the lyrics for Tenohira through Sono Ase wa Uso wo Tsukanai. IMO, lyrics wise, "Hitei no Requiem" is the little sister of Keibetsu.

Turns out that YUKO was pregnant, not Sae (oh god, it's like the Hypertime version of Densen Uta come to life ). Also, Nonti used to . Kasai comes in and says, "Sayaka got into a fight and got stabbed!", and the scene ends. Memolist has a cute note that it's only part of the story, not real.

EDIT: He doesn't have any really good info for the others, but apparently Ohori plays a bad (as in evil) upperclassman.

Well, I'm reviewing this stage because I'm bored and there's no way in hell that I'll study neurosurgery right now

Anyway, here we go!

I'm not reviewing the skit because it changes every performance, duh

1. Tenohira: I actually really like these uniforms. Sure, they do make them look a bit chubby, but I still think that they are gorgeous and fluffy and very cute. They would look better if SOMEONE bothered ironing the skirts though...
Ok, now to the song. I ADORE it. It's the best AKB ballad I have ever heard (yeah, Sakura no Hanabiratachi doesn't really do it for me). And the cute choreography only makes it better! Also, those lyrics... Ahhh! Beautiful!!!

2. Saka Agari: Another great song! I love how energetic and happy it is! It reminds me of the K3 stage, and I love that one, so that's just WIN. Plus, great bouncy choreography too

3. Hitei no Requiem: Ahh... Cool Team K is already a trademark, right? This song is amazing, the voice arrangements are very interesting and sound great. And those outfits... Wow. I want BLTs of that before they disappear! One of the most crafted outfits in AKB history, and they are so sexy too!

4. Sono Ase wa Uso wo Tsukenai: I like this song, so all of you haters can GTFO

5. End Roll: ASFDSHDJFAK. I mean, YAY Yuko in sexy unit! Finally!!! It's a bummer that she has no solo lines, but sharing them with Umechan implies that both of their voices are all over the place in this song Yuko is such a great dancer!!! And I like their normal looking clothes a lot too, it's a nice concept. SALSA SALSA SALSA!!!!

6. Wagamama na Nagareboshi: Awesome song is awesome. This is damn catchy! I thought it would be some really generic cutie song (like Hatsukoi Dorobou) but it turned out to be amazing in all of its 80s glory! And the lyrics... Erena singing "I want to have big boobs" is the best comedy EVER.

7. Ai no Iro: Great song, great concept for the choreography, and flowy dresses that make it look beautiful! This one was an instant favorite, although I do hate the fact that it's such a huge unit... I'm both happy and surprised that Matsubara Natsumi didn't end up in this...

8. Dakishimeraretara: This is my favorite song from this stage. It's just... WOW. Everything about the performance is flawless, the entrance, the sultry choreography and the combination of Nacchi's clear voice, Mochi's deep tone and Kasai's moe! Outfits are lovely, and subtly sexy, and the lyrics... OMG, those lyrics are the most amazing thing Akimoto has written in a while!!

9. Mushi no Ballad: Sayaka Solo. That's enough said. You should understand by now that this means unmatched awesomeness

10. Furishite Maneshite: Another song with amazing lyrics! I know nothing from B4 other than Chocolate and Idol, but this stage's songs are incredible, lyric-wise! I actually like this costumes, they look like typical colombian dresses

11. Umi wo Watare: Great. It somehow reminds me a bit of the epicness of Hana to Chire mixed with the happy feeling of songs like Sougen no Kiseki. I LOVE the chorus, but the verses are a bit bleh, admittedly

12. Machikado no Party: Weird ryhthm, but what a fun song! Party crackers and all!

13. Fan Letter: Best outfits ever. They are super hot! And I like how the song isn't all sappy and slow, but it actually has a rhythm and stuff...

14. Fugiri: Aggressive song, but very very nice. I think that the catsuits are SUPER hot! I love this, headbanging included and all...

15. Hanpa na Ikemen: This might be my least liked song of the stage, yet I like it more than 70% of A5's songs Sassy!

16. To be continued: Glad that this isn't a ballad either, and I like the start of the song, especially. Those vest things are hideous, and while they don't look that bad on the girls who are wearing short pants, on the others they look totally out of place!

And that's all... damn, it took way less time than I'd thought... Now I have to go and study
