I know there was some discussion going on in one of the other threads. Admins, feel free to cut and insert those into this first post.


I'm slowly going through this 5th stage since I've been pretty busy this weekend. I just started watching the first unit which is called Endroll (?) and the dancing is pretty awesome. Sure, I maybe biased toward Umechan but Nonti had that badass cartwheel that seemed so natural, she could have been doing some capoeira!

I'll continue my review later. Now it's nappy time.

I'm really happy, because I was worried that they'd have a crappy stage to make up for how awesome K4 was and instead... it's just as awesome, if not moreso. I could probably listen to it and K4 all day.

K5 Awards!

Favorite songs: End Roll, Mushi no Ballad, Saka Agari, Fugiri, Tenohira, Fan Letter, and To be continued, although I really can't think of a song I dislike/would skip more often than play.

Cutest/funniest/awesomest moments: Yuko "spinning" Kana, Nonti being goofy (camera whoring and almost running into someone else head-on, picking up stuff after the unit songs [a flower from an "Ai no Iro" dress, Sayaka's hat], the cartwheel), Sayaka getting super into "Mushi no Ballad" causing the "End Roll" unit ("Umeshima Natsuyo", IIRC) to comment that she had a "solo concert"

Best outfits: End Roll, Fan Letter, Encore (minus the white things for "To be continued"). The ones for Machikado no Party, etc, would have gotten a mention, but ever since someone on S48 mentioned that they look like packing material or whatever, that's all I can think of and I can't help but laugh when I see them now. D:

I saw Natsuki shoulders and Kuramochi shoulders. Where were Tomo~mi shoulders? This is an outrage.

Endroll FTW! Nontii looked like a pimp in the best way possible! And Yuko's dancing managed to be both cute and cool at the same time! And Natsumi looked stunning and I want Ayaka's clothes.

That is all because I haven't watched any other units yet

I actually found the full team songs better than the unit songs this time around.

I guess End Roll would be the best unit song, but I think it's overrated so far. I'm just biased toward Yuko and Umechan so I have to somewhat like it

I gotta say tho, of the 3 groups Team K has the most physically attractive girls.

Anyway, pretty solid Stage. It wasn't gimmicky like the last one but at least the songs had a clear theme they followed through the whole song, unlike A5 which lacked direction in most songs.
You know a Stage is good when you are done watching and you ask yourself "Aaaw, thats it?"

The group songs were ok, but nothing that grabbed my attention. I still regard Team B better in that department (Actually I think H1 had the better group songs but that since you can attach it to a specific Team....).

Even if you include Wagamamana Nagareboshi, the unit songs were darker and mellower than their last stage, making it that more cohesive.

I fucking loved the choreography of Dakishimeraretara. They managed to be sensual without being explicitly sexy. And how can you not like that butt-shake?

I wished they had used less girls for Ai no Iro and just made two songs instead. It looks like they just said "Fuck it" and lumped all leftover members in there so it almost feels like a group song.
Poor Ohori went from a duet to the middle row of a 6-member song.

And then there is the most remarkable performance of all: Sayaka's Mushi no Ballad (making her the third member to ever get a solo song in a stage setlist).
The emotion she puts into her singing really flies off the screen right into your face. I just wish the song itself was better, its more a performance you have to watch instead of just listening.
It is going to be interesting when Sayaka can't perform and they have to get a replacement, her voice is pretty much unmatched in whole AKB48. I suggest a high-pitched girl just for shits and giigles.

And I still can't believe Noro managed to pull a cartwheel.

Third? I think it's second. Yuko is the only other girl to have a solo (K3). In a concert setlist, though, there's Hoshino Michiru, too.

We can also go ahead and add all alternate versions and 'Amai Kokantsesu' if we are gonna split hairs. In this case Sayaka is the 5th or 6th to get a solo. Doesn't sound so glorious anymore

Anyway, this stage is good but I still prefer K4, if not just for the Meshibe and 16nin song. I can't see myself putting this songs in my mp3player as I care more about the perfs as a whole.

I still haven't watched the whole thing yet but I think it'll grow on me once I get it in my mp3 player. A5 and K4 totally grew on me after listening to it on my iPod several times. YES, even A5. So for me, K5 has a good shot at growing on me too.

It's still glorious. Just compare all the solos to her solo. It can be the 1000th solo in the AKB history, but her performance is so magnificent that is a total win. And I'm not biased.

So, I had done a review with my first impressions but now that I've heard the songs a lot more, I've changed some of my opinions, for better.


In general, I love the stage. It might be missing some power we are used to see in Team K, but there are no BAD songs (like Hatsukoi Dorobo and 16nin Shimai no Uta in K4, those were a must skip for me). I would not skip any on the K5 songs.



Opening drama: That was great but freak. Seriously. I mean, I loved it but I still think Akimoto was high when he planned it. I loved Sayaka's storm-like entrance. Haha. Now I wonder if they are gonna do the same every time or if they're gonna change it once in a while.

School uniforms: One of the ugliest I've seen. The top is OK, but the skirt is terrible T_T Plus, the ones who have the jackets buttoned looked fat.

Tenohira: Many people have complained about a slow song at first, but that apart, this is one of the most beautiful slow songs I've heard from AKB (together with Sakura 2008 and 10nen Zakura's B-sides). I loved the song from the very first time.

Saka Aagari: I found it kind of average at first, but now it grew on me easily. Like most of the songs, the chorus is the catch point.


Amazon-like costumes: Jesus Christ They ALL (well, almost) look hot. Sayaka has such an amazing body And my Sae came back, with her short hair, hot outfits and cadential movements. Great clothes.

Hitei no Requiem: THIS IS TEAM K. Hot, rhythmical. This song is excellent! I loved the voice arrangement. They did this in many songs and worked perfectly! (like they did in Mori he Yukou in H2). One of the best songs in K5. One of my favorites, too.

Sono Ase wa Uso wo Tsukanai: The Amazon costumes don't fit this song. But oh well, I don't mind seeing that outfit once and again. The song is ok, it had to grew on me after several listening, though. Good, but average.

End roll: EXCELLENT! I loved it, my second favorite unit song. It reminds me DA PUMP so much Despite other comments, I think the costumes are perfect. They all look great. Natsumi really surprised me, also Nonti. They are great dancers. I loved both here. Well, in summary, I could listen to End Roll the whole time, and it wouldn't bother me.

Wagamamana Nagareboshi: HORRIBLE costumes. When Kana and Erena appeared on stage, I thought: "I'm gonna hate this song". And guess what... I luv it It's so from the 80's. It made me go singing "look up, look up, look up, the sky is falling...". Don't know why!!!!

Ai no Iro: Oh Sae, oh Sae. You're so hot yet so adorable. I agree, this song has too many people. Ohori should have gone to Kasai's unit and and Naruru or Oku to Erepyon's. Despite this, the song is good. VERY GOOD. I felt it was too short, though. The dresses are insanely cute, but I don't know why Sae keeps looking hot and moving as she were going to seduce me...

Dakishimeraretara: This is the unit song I liked less, I think it's coz it's too long, like "does this ever end?". Shorter would be better, IMO. It's too relaxing, so you begin to fall asleep, like with sirens melodies or something. The clothes are hot. I loved how Asuka and Nacchi showed their shoulders little by little. For a moment I thought the blouses would fall down. LOL. But well, me liking it less doesn't mean I didn't like it. Asuka's voice matches the rhythm perfectly.

Mushi no Ballad: I'm so, so so so so in love. It's might not be the best rock ballad in the world, but Sayaka does such a great job, she's so into the performance, she suffers so... She turned a good song into a marvelous song. *goes fangirling* The outfit? Show the belly pls! And wear a Fedora! I loved the tutu. And plaid works for me, so I don't complain.


Frilly costumes: These ones are so horrible, so horrible, so horrible... So horrible that demonstrate the girls look amazing no matter what they wear. They still looked great, even with that freaking golden belt.


Furishite Maneshite: That stupid guitar solo at the beginning is amazing! That made me love the song, and the chorus, of course. Pretend you love me, do as if you hugged me... >___< More songs like this, please!

Umi wo Watare!: Took me a while to like, but the chorus ended up blowing my mind. Again, that voice arrangement. Flawless.

Machikado no Party: Team K turns everything into a party. It took me a while to like this song but well, you know the story. I like it now, a lot. T__T



SUPER GREAT NECKTIE CLOTHES: zOMG HOT. Sayaka, as usual, look really good but... Sae just made me go 1000 times gayer. LOL. Wearing all that white stuff, HOT! She looks so handsome.


Fan letter: Thanx to this song I'll write fan letters until the day I die. Another amazing ballad. Best ballads are in K5!


PLAID WEIRD CLOTHES: I loved these. If I could I'd wear one of these. Seriously.

Fugiri: It does the same on me as Furishite Maneshite and Hitei no Requiem, so I love it. And I loved the dance, the girls rocking their heads was a blast. Another TEAM K-style song, IMO.

Hanpana Ikemen: People might hate it. But Ange loves it! This is also a total Team K song. Why? The first lines are all with that low voice the other teams just can't match.

To be continued: I don't understand why they are wearing those night robes on... The classic ending song. Thanx for the Saeyaka moments. Huh huh!

BUT I loved Erepyon's costume in wagamamana. Skirt was nice and short. AND I was thinking to myself, " Kana isn't just shouting! But still not that great." I'm just watching this for Erepyon.

Also, I'd like to find out how the wotas will add their chants to these songs. They seem to be written in a way were not much chanting can go on. Well, at least for the ones I've listened to so far.

After watching it again today, I'm still not liking any of the group songs. I know its just me, and i'm talking about the songs here, not the performance, since its very evident that Team K's energy is there.

but yeah, thank God for unit songs and I can say that I like all of them, especially Dakishimeraretara, that just made me cry the first time I heard it. If anyone can give some partial lyrics for this that would be great.

like yeah! I mean I love the song but Kasai's coat thingy looked weird. Nacchi and Mocchi looked really hot though.

END ROLL blew me away, that classical guitar on the instrumental sounds really good. The dance was epic but the costumes still look plain to me. I mean after watching that again, I can see some effort on the details like the one sided fur thingy on the coats (Yuko's and Nontii's I think). But maybe I'm just not seeing enough colors from it, just plain white. I remember there was blog pic of this unit before and they had more badass outfits there.

I think they're just trying to even things out. Girls that did have a prominent unit prolly got put into a larger unit.

And I'm watching K5 as I type and so far I likes it. Hopefully there will be a proper CD release, I probably won't be watching the stage many times even if I like the songs.

End roll was awesome stuff! Matsubara I loved the hip-hop styled white outfits they were wearing.

Kasai's vocals sounded kinda weak to be lead in Dakishimeraretara but the costumes were hawt. And the tie and shirt combo in Fan letter (I think?) totally killed me.

This was a pretty solid stage. Hopefully it'll still be on when I get to Tokyo later this year.
