Help
AKB -- felt like they only got 45 seconds but I know it was over 2 mins, and they did wonderfully. I know the mics are off on a show like this but, well they dance and move like no one else, and give off waves of energy. The instant velcro costume change -- almost perfection. A wardrobe malfunction or 2 would have been total perfection
Of course ARASHI had to steal Aki-P's brilliant idea and do a Johnny's version of velcro costume change later - damn them
We knew it would be RIVER + Namida Surprise a long time ago, but I kept hoping some of Iiwake Maybe would slip in there somewhere. The perf I will watch the most times, and my favorite bar one.
My other j-pop hilites:
Ayu -- she's still sparkly and still puts on a show.
ikiminogakari -- Wow another good performance this year. The future of non-idol j-pop is safe maybe.
Perfume -- I really like Perfume, but this was meh. 2008 was their year, but in 2009 they were out of place here.
Funky monkey babys -- this was a surprise for me, it looked like a comedy trio (the boke in the glasses!), but now have to check them out, crowd was into their song Hero, it was catchy and not in the insidious boy band way. I think heard them before on a tv theme, but forget which one.
Angela Aki -- Sugoi, she rocks a piano.
SMAP -- gaaaaaa if Kusanagi had only finished by shouting "What's wrong with dancing naked in a park?", it would have at least been hilarious therefore worth it. Their songs are ok, their tv shows are ok, some are good actors -- but them singing live can sometimes be
[won't say another bad word about boy bands -- fangirls are lurking]
Mizuki Nana -- I like this seiyuu, anime otakus were out in force (by the screams), but just a so-so perf!
Otsuka Ai and Kimura Kaela -- What happened to these two? They would have stood out in years past.
ayaka -- Incredible, she's a force of nature. This was the best perf for me, her farewell - should have been the last song.
