I wonder if all 100+ girls will perform River...? Dance :dammit:

Seriously, I think that would be cool to watch them do the beginning of River, with 100+ girls doing the AKB version of Stomp on stage.

LOL, and to think I believed the stage was already too crowded when back in 2007 they decided to bring over all the members. They sure know how to outdo themselves.

I hope they don't sing RIVER...
In a Kouhaku performance, the quality of the singing counts too :8o:

And, if ALL the girls are there, having only the senbatsu singing most parts would seem stupid :frown:

But, then, thinking better, RIVER would be better than repeating Aitakatta (it would be carved forever in AKB like Love Machine for MM:dammit:)... :XD:

I am most certain they will sing RIVER. It is their most successful single to date. The rest 100+ members can do the performance army style, no singing needed, while the senbatsu members can be the platoon leader. I'm hoping for an epic performance. Hopefully they won't lipsync. Practice hard AKB! I can't wait... :hawhaw:

Or they could do a medley where they do RIVER, kimi no and hikoukigumo...that'd be awesome. With ske added in, in various places in the lineup...or add tsuyoki to the list and then perform one song big together at the end like...akb sanjou.

AKB Sanjou is very appropiate for AKB's Kouhaku performance, especially if they are going all out with all the members. However, what about SKE? They should've sing "We are SKE!!! The Nagoya sister group of AKB" instead of AKB Sanjou. But then, I think the RIVER shouting of EI KEI BIIII FORTY EIGHT!! is enough to make a mark on Kouhaku. :nervous:

This description I've read from H!O tracker made me lol so hard, mainly because the red team rarely won and most likely won't win this year either. :whistling:

Quote

Acchan having a quarrel with Okada about the Kohaku-Utagassen at a public bathhouse(*).
Okada says "WHITE team will win this year, you know", Acchan opposes "No. RED team will".
Then they've promised each other. If WHITE team wins, Acchan must have a sleep with Okada. If RED team wins, Okada must have his head close-cropped.

Yup, it is. Do the artists get to pick their own songs or is it the Kouhaku people who decide it? Because I'm sure Akimoto won't be so stupid do let them do Aitakatta again.

I will go for either RIVER or medley.

There's no evidence for anything I say in this post

I think what probably happens is they present what they want to do to kouhaku and they then approve it or not...seems most likely to me anyway.

You guys got it right when you guessed they would most likely perform River. Well, sort of...
Here's a newspaper scan listing some of this year's participants coupled with their respective songs. The same list can also be found on Kouhaku's official website, now that I'm looking at it, so it pretty much confirms its veracity.

Posted Image

As you can see, AKB is said to be going to perform something called "River Surprise! Kouhaku Remix", which by the sound of it seems to be River and Namida Surprise rolled into a single performance. Here's hoping it'll be good, those two songs are so different on so many aspects it might prove hard to fit them together.

using the word 'surprise' could mean some other song(s) are in the medley too...doing a double pun?
Anyway I think it's gonna be awesome to see how they do this CAN'T WAIT!

Ugh... why Namida surprise though? I don't like songs about birthdays, they are lame!

They should've done a remix of RIVER and Tobenai Agehachou (although it wouldn't make sense at all)

Why not? River and Namida Surprise represent their two best selling singles to date, and don't forget they are also the ones that received the largest promotional campaigns of all so they must have reached a much larger audience than the rest.
Since Kouhaku is a major television event attracting huge numbers of viewers every year, it can only be a wise choice for them to mark their appearance with a couple of songs that can be easily recognized even by someone who isn't strictly into idols. As much as I like Aitakatta, it's at least a safer bet than, say, performing that song again.

As much as I love them to perform more than one song, I really hope they'll make a good medley. When you do medley, it is important that the time given to do medley is long enough. If not, it'll be like just 5 seconds for one song and it won't make sense to the viewers, especially if the viewer never heard the songs before.

Don't fret, they probably would have a good one. The medley they sang in another kouhaku-like show (Dream Live 2008) had a good selection.

@wil - yeah it is a big deal

AKB48 didn't do their AKB48 shout of RIVER in MSSL 2009, it really disappoints me. I'm really hoping they'll do it in Kouhaku.

Bah! Their appearance was pretty short. I think it was only 72 members. They did a bit of River and a bit of Namida Surprise.

Maybe they will appear again in the background, but who knows.

+ Positioned as the letters "AKB" on stage
+ The girl announing "Riba Sapuraizu kouhaku rimikusu, dozo" :8o:

- Too short
- No epic shouts (Mae mae, river, akb48, otanjoubi omedetou)

Momusu had more time when they presented in kouhaku

My reactions:
- Not liking the first outfits. I want army-themed uniform. :8o: I guess that's because they are two-layered clothes...
- Their appearance time is too short.
- 72 members is good enough to bring the AKB-army point to the viewers.
- I WANT MY "AKB48" SHOUT!!! :weeeh: They didn't do it in MSSL and they didn't do it in Kouhaku. Disappointed...
- The medley is good enough. At least they didn't try to mix 3817428721 songs into a 2 minute medley.
- Love when they did those alphabet thingy.

Meh, it was alright. The River part was nothing special but the Namida Surprise part was better. I think they should've worn the MSSL costumes.

EDIT - just noticed some members made an appearance in SMAP's performance too, they come in at the end

Overall, I was disappointed in both the Music Station and Kouhaku appearances. Maybe I expect too much, but the time was way too short in both. I mean, really, they didn't even perform a full song in reality.

In general, both shows were a bit of a letdown. The selection of artists altogether wasn't very exciting, from a girl pop point of view. Other than AKB, Perfume, GIRL NEXT DOOR, Queen Ayu, Kumi Koda, and Ai Otsuka there was nothing to get excited over. To be honest, even a little Hello Project wouldn't have hurt!

Where were Amuro Namie, BoA, or even SPEED? The good old days are certainly over. I remember when Music Station Super Live was an event to look forward to and rewatch over and over again, but those days are gone.

The CDTV special is usually better because the guests have more screen time. But lately the guests have been suckin hard.

They yelled 'aka' which means red because they are in the red group.

ALSO REPLACING ERENA FOR RENA IS ACTUALLY NOT ON THIS IS RIDICULOUS!? ERENA IS A SENBATSU MEMBER FOR RIVER SHE SHOULD DAMNWELL GET HER PLACE!!!
They have her taking off yuko's dress for goodness sake!!!!

[...]

Amuro Namie always skip Kouhaku invitation, she rather spend time with her kid. I'm happy for her though, even if the fangirl in me want her to perform.

MSSL has been a Johnny/THSK fest for me (just look at the audience!) and Kouhaku is seriously better as an enka show. What the fuck with the frikkin only 2 minutes performance for AKB?! They are the best selling girl group of this year! As for the red team, it shows that they didn't even make an effort to have new blood in it, I mean they could've invite Chatmonchy or SCANDAL to spice things more.

The best performance of AKB48 for this end of year shows are Japan Record Awards hands down. I don't agree with AKB48 should've wear MSSL costumes, I like that they have different costumes for each performance, it gives more fresh image and shows that AKB48 is not as cheap as H!P. But I agree with the part that Namida Suprise was better, if not for the sheer amount of members, better outfits and better choreography (the girls forming for letter A K B is so lovely).

It's new year here and I'm ranting about girl groups, I'm such a fangirl extraordinaire.

Bleh.

To short and no stomping the stage, unflattering first costumes.
They should have learned from MM that changing costumes onstage nerver really works.

The 'A K B' ketters was a nice touch.

Forgot to mention, haters gonna hate, but I think SMAP actually does a good job in doing the tribute. They work their ass hard and they actually are big fan of MJ. Kudos to them. I like the HEAL THE WORD part in the end too, it's a nice touch.

Maybe it makes someone happy but Ayumi Hamasaki didn't get much more time than AKB...

the total time of their appearance plus the short talk is 3 minutes and 36 seconds

It is still 3 minutes and 36 seconds more than H!P and that is all I care about.

Anyone know if Sayaka made it into the SMAP performance? I can't tell from the video but I hope she didn't miss it cause she was going to get too emotional over MJ.

I don't agree with AKB48 should've wear MSSL costumes, I like that they have different costumes for each performance, it gives more fresh image and shows that AKB48 is as cheap as H!P.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I just thought the MSSL costumes were a lot better.

The queen of J-Pop is declining, like H!P. She even had to apologize for her own performance.

Did she???
Well, maybe it's time for the new queen....
Since AKB48 can't become a queen (queens????), I vote for my fave J-Pop Singer Mai Kuraki, which I'm sure many will disagree..:8o:
